Terminate and moving out

Are you moving out? Here is an overview of everything you need to remember!

Terminate your contract

If you want to move before your contract expires, you need to terminate your contract on My page. Your termination notice is 2 or 3 months, depending on what is agreed in your tenancy contract. The termination is counted from the 15th or the last day of the month.

You will see the available dates for which you can terminate your contract in the Termination form on My page.

Terminate contract

What is my termination notice period?

The notice period is two or three months, depending on the type of housing you live in. You can check the notice period for your particular housing on My page.

Can I move out earlier and not have to pay rent for my whole contract period?

You can choose to move out earlier, but you still have to pay rent for the duration of your contract. This means that if you have terminated your contract for April 30, you must pay rent for the whole month of April, even if you choose to move out on April 16.

If you do not plan to stay for the entire duration of your contract, you can consider subleasing your residence to another student. Read more about subleasing here.

I didn't get admission

Are you a new student in Oslo, but didn't get accepted into a program affiliated with SiO?

Send us documentation here that you were not accepted, by July 31. Then we will cancel your tenancy contract.

Valid documentation

For example, an admission letter from "Samordna Opptak" or your educational institution showing:

  • You were not accepted

  • You are on a waiting list

  • You were accepted at another institution

Do I need to pay anything?

If your contract starts on August 1, you pay nothing. If your contract starts before this, you pay up until and including July 31.

NB! If you decline admission in Oslo, this rule does not apply. In that case, you can use the shortened notice period during the summer. Scroll down to read more about this.
